Squirrels like Christmas!

In autumn I see squirrels running around the neighbourhood hoping to score some forgotten hazelnuts to keep them through the winter.  It’s technically autumn still (you’d never know it with all the white stuff out there), but look at what the squirrels are doing… they’re getting in the Christmas spirit!  That’s right… look closer…

Do you see the little trees? So cute!!  Thank you Susan Ray for sending the photo in~ I love all the colours you made the squirrels so much.

Those adorable squirrels were made with the Poppedijn Squirrels Pattern PDF sold here: http://www.beardancecrafts.com/poppedijn_kits.htm and here too: https://www.etsy.com/shop/BearDanceCrafts

I really hope the squirrels collected what they needed this autumn because King Winter has arrived and left us with lots of snow…

The Candy Witch, Witches and Halloween

witch!

witch!

Stories of witches abound at Halloween, and while Halloween is called by several names, it usually involves witches, ghosts, goblins, and other somewhat spooky and dead kinda things.  It seems that witches get either the goodie-two-shoes Disney adorable type or the Witchy-poo green-broomstick-cauldron bad rap type which maybe stems from witch hunting times?  That and possibly some gruesome Brothers Grimm stories (I love their tales btw!).

Recently I made a set of characters in dollhouse size based on the the book The Candy Witch by Steven Kroll.  They were a lot of fun to make!

Candy Witch, with parents and brother

Candy Witch, with parents and brother

The Candy Witch is an out-of-print book about a witch girl who figures out how to give candy to the other kids.  This is not your Brothers Grimm kind of witch!  She is neither all good, nor all bad, she is trying to be good but it doesn’t quite work out in the beginning.

I love these kind of stories.littlestwitchcover  I have a long-time favourite in my home, a library discard from the 60′s called The Littlest Witch by Jeanne Massey. It’s another girl witch trying to be good.  It’s a much longer read than The Candy Witch, but worth it if you can find a copy.  There is a beautiful moment where Littlest Witch sits for so long a spider spins a beautiful veil on her.

I have some more witch-y stuff to share, but will leave you with these book ideas for now.  If you want to comment with your favourite witch and Halloween themed books, please do!

Forest Friend and the Deer

This sweet little Forest Friend started out as a fairy… that’s just how things go sometimes.  I sit down with a clear space and an intention to create something and a little something magical happens during the process… what I thought I was going to make transforms with inspiration through the process of creation.

This little set will be available on Facebook this weekend.  I will post the link on my wall, so if you would like to stay update please friend me at: https://www.facebook.com/natalie.woolhalla

Bitsy the (Troll) Girl Doll

Bitsy the troll girl

Bitsy the troll girl

Bitsy is a girl much like other girls, except she happens to be a troll.  Well, she tried (very hard, I assure you) to be a good troll, but has secretly been trying to behave like a regular girl… a human girl!  You can imagine just how unhappy her mother is with her!!

Bitsy (who used to be called Booger) spends her days making sure her dress isn’t too dirty, combing her hair (with a broken comb she found on the forest floor, but has since lost again) and peeking into the windows of houses to see what other children are doing.  Now she is singing daily, being nice to the other trolls, and also much her mother’s dismay she is also tidying up her room!  Bitsy also can be out in the sun as she has developed a tolerance for it, unlike other trolls, so you don’t have to worry about that.

trollgirl03-72
As you can imagine Bitsy is a special girl.  She will be happiest if she can move to a home where there are nice children (or other humans) who can help her look after herself as she is prone to wander and lose things!  You can find out more about Bitsy in her Etsy listing:

Hello Spring and Happy Easter

Happy Spring & Easter!!  It’s been a long while since I had a moment to post~ I was away on a trip in Europe with my family for many weeks.  I’m still unpacking and catching up, but thought I would first share this photo I made of a lamb that was less than two hours old when I made the pic.
